BBC HIGHLIGHTS LOSS OF ENGLISH MEADOW LAND

The BBC’s Radio 4 Today programme reported on 3rd September on an unpublished document by Natural England which indicates increasing loss of meadow land across the country.

The report says that an EU directive aimed at protecting grasslands has backfired as concerned farmers have responded by ploughing up their meadows to increase crop production.

The BBC news brief stresses the vulnerability of wild flower meadows.  The Bishop’s Meadow Trust is proud that Farnham’s meadow will remain in its natural state for generations to come.
